I don't know if this has been posted as a topic before but I am curious if there is a song that seems to hit home for you with regard to the pain of losing your mate.
While there are numerous songs that seem to capture my emotions the one that hits it on the head is "Doctor My Eyes" by Jackson Browne. As many times as I've listened to this song it never stops expressing my feelings of loss.
Any of you have a song that would express your pain?
I actually have several but the one that really expresses the essence of how I feel is " I'll Never Love Again" by Lady Gaga. My other two favorites are" To Where You Are" by Josh Groban and "If You Only Knew" by the Rochesters. I haven't heard 'Doctor My Eyes". I'm going to listen to that one later. My husband and I were really into the lyrics of a song. I think we had a special song for every phase of our courtship and marriage. It seems surreal now but we even had special songs related to life after the loss of a loved one. "Angels Among Us" by Alabama and 'When I'm Gone" by Joey and Rory. Take care.
"Darkest Days" by Black Label Society ...
My healing song permit me to scream, cry & reel on the floor mercilessly ...
It also became my trigger song when I had too many days in between w/out grieving. It relieved pent up stress & sorrow as weeping did not make the grade ...
At 11 1/2 years out, the video brings back memories of great healing work completed - no tears or sadness ...
I find this discussion one that hits home for me. I tend to identify many feelings/emotions through songs that speak to me or bring memories to the forefront of my mind. Although there are a few that express my feelings since my husband passed, the one that I think of first is an old one titled "And So It Goes" by Don Williams.
Thank you. I listened to "And So It Goes" by Don Williams and immediately downloaded the song. It made me smile as I thought about the last conversation my husband and I had. We had no idea that less than an hour later he would be gone and I would be a widow.
Good question. I'm not sure I have an answer, but I'll enjoy reading everyone elses.
DIVA70, I had the same reaction when I heard that song, it spoke directly to me. I had gone on you tube to find "Imagine That" by Don Williams because I had heard it play on tv when "And So It Goes" played directly after. Both old songs and both worth listening to.
Thank you again...I listened to "Imagine That" and liked that one too.
A bit after my beloved Lynne passed, a friend sent me a youtube link of a song by an amazing artist I'd not been aware of- Jason Isbell. Do a "youtube" search of "Isbell vampires".
The song is "fall to your knees, WAIL, beat the floor, and collapse sobbing" beautiful.
It is sung from the vantage point of a young man contemplating what 40 years of time passing will do with/to him and his beloved, when the inevitable finally comes to pass.
I got 34 years with my beloved. I am profoundly blessed.
Forever Isn't Long Enough for Me - Judith Durham, who wrote and sings, is also a widow.
vintage56(barb)- Thank you SO much for posting! I absolutely LOVE The Seekers, and this is one I'd never heard. Bless you.
The song that ran through my mind after Susan's passing was a song by the Everly Brothers... Dream.
It brought such tears to my eyes.
Now-a-days, one about the loss of a loved one can tear my up.
