A very dear friend has offered to make a memory quilt for me. She will be using my husband's clothing. Do any of you have a memory quilt? Did you use anything other than clothing?

Wow! That is a dear friend ... Beautiful!

Wow, Stan's sister just asked me if she could have some of his shirts to make a quilt for her...It's a wonderful idea! I wish she would offer to make me or the kids one!

I loved the pics Dianne and gig- maybe I will see if I can find anyone to do one for us!!!

The quilts are beautiful!  I had "butt bags" made after my husband passed away.  He had soooo many pairs of jeans--a friend would make these cute purses out of her 4 year old granddaughters jeans and so I asked her about making tote bags out of my husband's jeans.  She thought it was  a great idea.  The bags are lined with his boxer shorts.  (He always hand-sewed up the fly because he didn't like 'free-falling').  This was great because then things wouldn't get lost in the lining.  She made the handles out of the pant legs.  My husband has 5 sisters and 3 daughters, so we made one for all of them and one for me and my mom too.  We had a girls weekend a couple of months after he passed away and I put a DVD of the funeral service, a memory/photo DVD from the funeral home, a CD of photos, a CD of his favorite music and some other mementos in each bag.  I bought alphabet beads and some little charms, etc.... and some threading string and key chain rings and we gathered and made key chains to hang from the belt loops (his girls did, 'heart" you Dad.....etc...)   They were great and whenever we get together, we always bring our "butt bags".
This is such a wonderful idea!
neat idea! i like that too  :)

What a marvelous idea! And what beautiful memories you shared and weaved.

What a wonderful idea!  Such a lasting memory - Thanks for sharing
I have a throw made from my husband's T-shirts and dress shirts. (I tried to upload a photo, but my computer was uncooperative.) My friend had T-shirts to spare that I had provided her so she also made two pillows for me. I'm now volunteering with VITAS and the volunteers there made me a memory bear from another T-shirt. My favorite memory item, though, is the shadow box I had made from the contents of his drawer. It has his drivers' license, handkerchiefs, cards that indicate he had stents, his granddad's reading glasses, his discharge papers, etc.
OK, I'm trying again to upload the photos of the throw and the shadow box.

Itaintme,

I love your shadow boxes! I want to make some for my unborn sons room. He has only a few outfits that my husband bought him so I thought I would put them in a shadow box with a few of his belongings.

The quit is lovely too!

Thanks for sharing.

Very nice!!! I've always wanted a shadow box.
