A very dear friend has offered to make a memory quilt for me. She will be using my husband's clothing. Do any of you have a memory quilt? Did you use anything other than clothing?

I am in the process of making one for each of our 4 kids out of his t shirts.  My husband was a big runner and basketball coach and had collected countless t shirts over the years.   I have used his dress shirts and ties to make teddy bears.  the first one I made was for my new grandson, his first grandchild, and of course he never got to meet his Pop-Pop, so he has a nice soft Pop Pop bear made out of one of Dave's well worn and soft shirts and a little mini tie crafted from one of his favorite ties.   Not a substitute by any means for missing out on knowing his PopPop, but everyone who sees it recognizes it as being from something Dave wore, so I am hoping as he gets old enough to understand people will share memories with him as well.
I have a friend who offered to make a quilt and teddy bears out of my husband's clothes.. So far, I hadn't been able to part with his things, but I know they will be great keepsakes for me and my children.

MissHim11,

My sister made me a beautiful quilt.  I have it on our bed, it gives me comfort and strength.  It is BEAUTIFUL!!!!  i wish I could post a picture to give you an idea.   Best of luck, friend,

Carol

Yay!!! You attached the picture! It is very beautiful!!! My friend took Jorge's t-shirts and some of his work shirt (button downs). She is making a quilt for me out of the t-shirts and then using the others for a quilt for my children. I am so excited to get them! I will post pictures once I get them. :)
i would like one too.  i might use some of my boys clothing that he has grown out of but my husband used on him.

I'm having a t-shirt quilt made out of some of Sybil's t-shirts.  I haven't gone through her clothing yet, but I'm going to have the skull t-shirt that she was wearing the day I met her as the center square.

I WILL post pictures when it's done (whenever that may be)...

Barry only wore black t-shirts, and I gave most of his to goodwill.  He cared nothing about what he wore lol.  Instead of a quilt, the kids and I made teddy bears at Build a Bear.  Each teddy bear has inside it, a film canister half full of his ashes, so we can give him a hug whenever we want.
What a cool idea.

what a great idea - my friend is getting me a necklace with some of his ashes - but I also could

do the same with the teddy bear idea.

Thank you.

A dear friend surprised me with this beautiful quilt on Vern's birthday (4-1/2 months after he passed). She didn't use any of his clothes, but has special photos on it. I just love it.

oh thats so pretty! I LOVE that idea.  how did she do that? i would like to do something like that for the kids.

I'm not sure which process she used, but this link tells of a couple of different ways to transfer photos to fabric.
