Soaring Spirits provides widowed people with the chance to meet socially, and to create a local community of widowed friends through our Regional Social Group program. Groups are led by our awesome volunteer facilitators who plan meetings twice a month in their geographical area.
Our meetings are focused on assisting widowed men and women in rebuilding their social structure post-loss. We don’t provide any presented content, and all of our meetings are held in easily accessible public locations. Our aim is to assist widowed people in getting back out into the world, with a group of understanding friends by their sides!
Group events are posted here in Widowed Village (http://widowedvillage.org/events) and on the Soaring Spirits web site (http://www.soaringspirits.org/regional-social-events) - or click on the link below for a group near you.
If you feel a call to give back, and believe that the Soaring Spirits model of spreading hope via peer-based programming is a good fit for you - or if you have questions about this Soaring Spirits program - please contact me at [email protected] or post a comment here in this Forum.

Were you able to attend the Regional Group Orientation at Camp, Angie? If not, just send Janine an email at [email protected] and she'll get you signed up.
Have you ben to Camp Widow? Send me an email and we can discuss this further ([email protected]), if you're still interested.
it's a lot of fun and is very easy!
The Regional Events are a terrific Idea! The NJ one is on June 28. A few of us will be in San Diego then... Is that date definite?
The first regional event in NJ is on June 14 http://widowedvillage.org/events/sslf-regional-event-in-new-jersey - so, hopefully, you'll be able to make that one before heading off to San Diego. I believe the plan is for each location to hold two events a month. NJ has June 14 and 28; more dates will be announced for the future months.
Sorry that I didn't see this earlier, but I'm guessing that Dianne's answer was what you were looking for.
I have signed up to receive emails from this discussion but it appears to not always work.
Anyway, you, my dear, know where to find me to ask anything. :)
Is there a Regional in WI/IL???
I haven't seen the full list of all locations in this first phase, but Janine will provide info when she pops in here.
Here's the list of those I know of:
Not yet, Carolynne - and I know you're too busy to take this on right now. With all the WVers we have in that area, I'm hoping someone has an interest. I'll be adding the new groups to the list above as they come on board.
We don't have any groups in IL yet , but would love to see one started. Let me know if you might be interested.
I believe there is one in Madison Wisconsin but that's too much of a hike for me. I live in Woodstock Il and am often in Lake Geneva Wi where my daughter lives. I'd be happy to get together with you sometime.
I think this is an awesome idea. I like the idea of paying it forward this way and sharing what we can with other widows/widowers. Please sign me up.
