Soaring Spirits provides widowed people with the chance to meet socially, and to create a local community of widowed friends through our Regional Social Group program. Groups are led by our awesome volunteer facilitators who plan meetings twice a month in their geographical area.
Our meetings are focused on assisting widowed men and women in rebuilding their social structure post-loss. We don’t provide any presented content, and all of our meetings are held in easily accessible public locations. Our aim is to assist widowed people in getting back out into the world, with a group of understanding friends by their sides!
Group events are posted here in Widowed Village (http://widowedvillage.org/events) and on the Soaring Spirits web site (http://www.soaringspirits.org/regional-social-events) - or click on the link below for a group near you.
If you feel a call to give back, and believe that the Soaring Spirits model of spreading hope via peer-based programming is a good fit for you - or if you have questions about this Soaring Spirits program - please contact me at [email protected] or post a comment here in this Forum.

Hi Connie .... we have a Colorado group that just started. It's in the Denver area. If you'd like more info, email our RGL there, Sade at :
If you're in a different area of the state then you have a bit longer to wait .... unless you're interested in starting one. :)
HI Dianne.....I am in Ohio near the Cleveland area. Do you know of a group there or nearby in the wings? I would be happy to volunteer my time to help get one going. I think this is an awesome idea!!! Please let me know what I can do. Thanks for always being there!
Diane of Kirtland, Oh
Hi Diane. Excellent! I don't have the full list of pending groups just yet. I know there's one in Central Ohio/Columbus area soon to get started, but that's too far. Send an email to Janine at [email protected]lf.org and let her know of your interest in the Cleveland area and she'll get you the answers.
Diane, I am also in the Cleveland area. There are a number of people on this site who live in the area and would probably be interested in meeting. Keep me posted if you decide to do it!
Hi Diane and Donna, I am in the Akron area and would be happy to help with an Akron/Cleveland area group.
Diane & Beth - Since you've been to Camp you can start a group ... and perhaps get someone to join you to help as a co-leader (co-leaders don't need to be Camp alumni). There are some great connections being made at these groups. Just need to hold 2 gatherings a month - in public places. Groups have met in restaurants, had picnics/potlucks at a park, met at a Barnes & Noble cafe, met for lunch, for coffee, for brunch, for dinner, for drinks, they've gone to concerts, to movies, to botanical gardens.
should I email Janine?
Yes - her email is [email protected] (yes, there are two e's there). She can tell you if anyone else has indicated an interest in that area and answer any questions you may have.
Hi Beth ....
Yes, please do email me and I'll give you all the info you need to decide if you want to become an RGL. It's really very easy and is so much fun!
It sounds like maybe you and Donna could maybe do one together?
Shoot me an email and we can talk about it more.
Donna, It would be great to work with you and Diane on this!
We'd love to start another group in Ohio!! If you're interested please shoot me an email .... the one Dianne gave you ([email protected]) and we can discuss it further.
It's very easy to lead a group. All you're doing is basically going out for dinner/lunch with friends.
Let me know if you have any other questions or are willing to jump on board as an RGL!
