Back home again, so glad to be back in my own bed. I have a long recovery ahead of me but it is just a matter of taking a day at a time. Services are in place for some help in the house and community nursing service to keep an eye on me. I must admit this all makes me feel old but give me a couple of months and I will hopefully be back to my healthy self again.

Twainman:  It is time to date when YOU feel like it, or when you get tired of being alone and would  enjoy a new friend for the long haul.

Such kindness. I appreciate it.

Do any of your children ever wonder what they did to cause mom or grandma’s death? Hard to know what to say other than “ YOU did nothing...”. Also, how does anyone know when it is time to date, if ever?

welcome  twainman2003.  You have come to the only place I know where you will make contact with  older widows  and widowers.  Watch for a post  from Frank also  in Colorado  and near your age.  And Bob  from Ca.  They  are active men posters. Compassionate  and  friendly.  Several  women  in our age group  also post here. Read the older posts, blogs  and visit  the various discussions.  Some are in early loss  and some several years loss.  We  are  growing  old  together  and often  discuss  problems of aging as well as grief.  There  is a chat  room  if you feel the need  but it's mostly younger  folks  with  added  concerns besides  widowhood. No real format  and  the dialog  can be almost anything  or nothing....fair  warning.  You are loving  and brave  to be raising  your grandson  alone  now.  Quite  a  challenge.  Come often  and explore  WV,  All sorts  of folks here.   Bound  to connect  with  one or more  people.   Best  of luck .     lj

My husband passed away on Oct. 5, 2017, this is all new and sad territory. A fairly routine heart surgery resulted in a hospital induced infection, and in less than 2 months he was gone; a healthy, robust and active man  still competing in fishing tournaments. We have a blended family of 3 children and many good friends who support me, the best gift of all.

Thanks so much for the encouragement Earth Spirit.

What were your circumstances?

Gary, I can’t speak to your particular circumstance but my heart goes out to you in the challenging path you’re on. I am sorry for your loss of a 35 year love, and hope their are local resources to help you with raising your grandson. My best to you..

Born in ‘44. Wife of 35 yrs. died of CLL in 2015. We were raising our grandson and he is now 9 and we are going it alone. Luckily, I had some skills and we seem to be doing okay. Just read book GROUP and it has really inspired me to attempt to contact others in my situation. When to consider dating? How to help your child deal with abandonment of his biological parents and now another parent figure gone. He does worry how long I will be here.

Hoping to hear from others.

Dancing is good exercise  too.   My 81 year old Friend is  very good dancer and folks tell us we look good dancing together.     I do have to be careful about sudden moves as my balance is terrible.
