Okay, let's talk about "camp crash." For those of you who have returned home after living in the bubble of understanding and support that exists at Camp Widow® for several days, please know that…Continue

My crash came and I seem to be rolling around in it.

My youngest daughter isn't a fan of the new me...

Last night was one of the worst nights I have had in...gosh... a long long time.  The primal/guttural noises that happened here last night were harsh yet cleansing.

The kids are both off living their lives and here I am swinging in the wind.  I'm tired of being the one to reach out...

I have made some pretty big steps and decisions this last year... and I am finally going to take the biggest step yet.

I am putting the house on the market in a couple months and heading off to the wilds of...AZ?  WA?  NV?  Who knows.  Maybe a truck and a 5th wheel? ( I do have dogs to haul around...)

Happy Saturday

Peace~

Sue

It was tough Kerrie. I'm glad you sat and shared my dessert with me. It was a pleasure. I saw your face and realized you were having a yucky key down too just like me. I enjoyed our chat. Thank you

Thanks for info Dianne. Even with all my meltdowns and some were real grueling, I am actually considering taking advantage of the early bird special!
I didnt hear the mention of the camp crash but was told it was said at the closing remarks session. I felt it before even leaving the embarcadero..fellow camper who was suffering the same "I don't want to go home or actually to the empty house" was kind enough to invite me over to where he was eating and we chatted for an hour. .gave me the reassurance I needed to make the move to drive home!

Thank you Marine2011 for the encouragement.  I don't remember seeing you, but I didn't stay later than any of the classes except for the banquet Saturday I stayed for a bit.  I think I may have been a bit in a "bubble".  Next year if I go I will be braver I hope.  Luckily this year since I did stay with my in-laws I had taken most of this week off.  Good thing too because I don't think I could have handled a full week!

Yes Dianne, for sure.  It was a very intense emotional weekend. and not all of the intense emotions were "bad". but it is still draining. I had a meltdown at the pool on Sunday. But one of my new fellow widow campers really saved the day and helped me over the hump. Treat yourself to that pizza and wine Dianne, you sure deserve it after all your hard work.

Camp Crash ... do they mention that in the New Camper Workshop?  If not, they really should. As you've noted ... and I've been feeling it myself today ... it is REAL. Mhardy said it perfectly, "It's that emptiness after the camp of fellowship. That piece that is missing."

And that is what brings on the emotions and the tears. I've received happy news today - a local widow friend announced that she remarried while vacationing in St. Croix, my special Widville pal Tracy got engaged today, another local widow pal is in a serious relationship. Yep, bring on the tears. And if I'm honest, they're both happy AND sad tears. Happy for them, sad for me (and that's a story for another day). And then there's my regrets that I didn't get to interact with everyone I wanted to meet at Camp. Add to that the tragic news reports. More tears. I think I'll order a pizza for one, pour some wine, turn on a sad movie and just get this over with!

Hi Kerrie. You need to register by July 27th to get the $100 early bird discount on next year's San Diego Camp Widow (it runs for two weeks after Camp ends).

Thanks Dianne,  you are right I think the room sharing is a great idea (my room mate was awesome!) and yes, I could have done a lot of things that would have cut down on the expenditures(like not drinking a lot..lol). I so appreciate all the work, time, energy and help you give to Soaring Spirits, to Camp Widow, and to me.  One day I will be able to help someone like you have helped me.  ((hugs)) sweet lady.

Dianne,

do you happen to know when the "early bird" must pay by to get the discount?
Comment by Dianne in Nevada on July 18, 2014 at 10:09am

To get the early bird discount, yes, you do have to pay now.  But you can come to Camp for far less than $1700-$2000.

Sharing a room at camp with one or two or three others cuts down on the hotel expenses. 3 nights shared by 3 means you only pay for one night each ($250). Since most of us spend little time in our rooms, that's doable. Do early bird registration at $275 and save $100.  Food/drinks & airfare is an individual thing & I didn't spend near your estimates, but using your numbers the total is now $1225 for Thursday thru Sunday. I know that's still out of reach for many but there are also camperships available to help.

Your life will get on track, Ali ... I'm just sure of it. And then I hope we'll get to see you at Camp again. The best part for me when I return to Camp each time is to see the changes in those returning. It just fills my heart to see the positive differences in our returning campers.  Death Sucks ... Widows Rock ... Hope Matters ... Long Live Love!
