Introduction-feeling lost

I lost my husband of 12 years on Oct 1st, 2018. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2015, did very well on targeted therapy, worked as a physician full time until April 2018 and became a passionate advocate for non-smoking lung cancer patients. He was doing well until he developed sepsis in April from group A strep and spent 8 weeks in the ICU. At home over the summer, he continued to recover from the infection and on Sept 28th, he suddenly suffered a massive stroke and passed away in my arms…See More

I so know how you feel when you talk about thinking about your husband’s last few days. I do the same. My husband, Phil, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February 2017 and within 7 weeks he had passed away. He was only 56 and was unable to have any chemotherapy as the disease had spread to his liver. We have two grown up children, a son and daughter. Our son has Aspergers Syndrome. We were a very close family, always going on holiday together and this has devastated us. Sometimes we still can’t believe what has happened. We were lucky to have Phil at home with nurses coming in twice each day to sort out his pain relief but in the last three days of Phil’s life, everything seemed to go downhill so fast. Unlike you, our doctor asked me not to share with Phil the fact that his passing would be imminent and I wonder how the children and I kept going, looking after Phil and trying to keep his spirits up, when we knew what was about to happen.

i feel for you, having such young children, you are obviously putting them first, without thinking of yourself. I hope you have friends and family who are helping you through this. It is not an easy road and as people say, you never get over it, you just learn to live with it  and it is so hard! Xx
