- The UW in my name stands for unwedded widow. My fiance Ron died from a sudden heart attack caused by severe obesity on September 4, 2004. He was 34.
My mission, which grew out of my loss, is to love people "from the inside out" and motivate others to do the same. I blog about this, as well as other issues of appearance and acceptance, at http://lovingfromtheinsideout.blogspot.com.

Just had a "friend" tell me on FB that I'm not a widow, as my boyfriend (who I was intending to marry, so I call him my fiance)--not husband--died. She quoted the dictionary to me. I realize she has not yet been educated about the TRUE definition of a widow. My everlasting thanks in that regard go to Kim Go for writing this article, which explains it: http://open.salon.com/blog/alive_and_mortal/2010/06/07/the_widows_gates. I put up that link and said "please read this." Even though "she hasn't been educated yet" may be true, and it doesn't bother me to the same degree it used to, it still raises the hackles, ya know?!? I'm realizing: We need to educate! And I want to do more to make that happen! I've started by contact a Merriam-Webster lexicographer, who I follow on Twitter. But there's more to be done...!
