I am no longer the rescuer

I have a saying:  'the weak can never help the strong", you all know what I mean.  Sometimes I look for help with something but I know a lot of those I am friendly with cannot help me, they have too many troubles of their own. I know I am a strong woman, I looked after an invalid husband for 12 years, the first four months after Ray had  had six months in hospital and rehabilitation unit I also looked after my Mum and Dad, Dad with cancer, Mum with Alzheimers, then my Dad died and I…

I'm in Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda Hell!!!

My name is Alicia. I'm new to the site and this is my 1st post. I'm a 31yr old, now single mother of a 4yr old. My best friend and love of my life passed away Aug 28th, 2015 unexpectedly from a genetic heart condition that we never knew he had. We had been together for 7yrs. I'm so happy to find this support group!! I'm very close with my family but they live pretty far away from me. And while I love my family they just don't understand my loss. Especially at such a young age. I've…

Promise me...

I had ordered a breast cancer bracelet to support the Susan G. Komen group and I received the package today.  The bracelet was in a light blue felt pouch and when I opened it I found the bracelet and a printed "Thank you" note with this quote:

"Promise me you'll always remember, you're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.  But the most important thing is, even if we're apart, I'll always be with you.  - Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh"…

It's not the same

I recently had surgery.  It wasn't planned and it caught me off guard to be smacked in the face with such a surprise and listening to a bunch of medical jargon, possible outcomes, and options while I was still coming out of the anesthesia.  I'm very grateful that I had a friend stay with me until my daughter showed up but it wasn't the same.  I wanted my husband by my side telling me everything was going to be alright.…

I have been a member here over 4 years. Its where I come in the evenings and weekends for company. The chat room has been such a great help to me. There are people to talk to that know what you are feeling. No matter what you are feeling that day is dragging you down or  something good happening or just to have some company, it is a great place to communicate. Things you never think you could say because no one understands can be shared. We have a great group of people here. Chat has been…

I am a careful, not carefree, widow

What is it with the world and widows/widowers are we under special surveillance or something?  In the past couple of weeks I have had some inquiries that have made me uncomfortable.  One "friend" asked me if there was something different about me , I said: "No, I don't think so" then he asked me: "Are you going out with a married man?" I answered:  "I don't know where you got that from but the answer is no."  Another supposed friend asked me:  "Is there something you want to tell me?" I…

The unexpected meaning of the Pansy

I have never really been the kind of person who believes in signs or that someone is watching over me, but that just might be changing. I noticed the other day that there was this little flower suddenly growing right outside my door. After having posted a picture of it on Facebook I found out it was a pansy. After a few of the comments it received i looked up the meaning of the pansy and found out that it is the flower of remembrance or loving thoughts. The fact that it only just appeared,…

Shame, Anxiety, Resilience

Just need a space to vent:

Among my biggest challenges is anxiety. I get consumed by it. Sometimes it is a mask for grief/pain and anger. Sometimes there is something real to worry about. Sometimes it just runs rampant. Today I am amped up on both pharmaceauticals (klonopin) and homeopathic drops and will try to do little bursts of exercise throughout the work day. I have an acupuncture appointment tonight. I see a therapist. I am really trying to attend to it. I can't keep this up.…

Much Sadness

Tonight I just feel the need to share this picture of my husband and his mother. It was taken years ago. My husband passed away two months ago yesterday and my mother-in-law passed away just one week ago today.

Am I a widow(er) or a single parent?

My husband was ill from the time my youngest daughter was in Kindergarten.  He passed when she was a sophomore in high school.  Her high school years were very routine,  The abundance of paperwork came home on the first day of class every year.  Since Kindergarten, I had been the one filing out those papers.  So after my husband's death, that routine continued.  I always took her to school while in high school and we had another parent to bring her home.  So after his death that continued.…

stupid feelings...go away!!

It is almost Spring, time for people to go for walks holding hands...yes, another of those triggers that gets me sad again. Why do I feel so lost and bereft when I see that happening?  It is almost three years and down I go into that black hole again.  But I have a ladder called HOPE and I climb back out again.  I hate that the triggers are still there under the cover of a sunny day so they are ready to be released any time I see or hear something that triggers that lonely sadness feeling.…
