Dan Mack

For those who knew Dan Mack both here in WV and FB I just wanted to pass on the sad news that I learned from another widow today. Dan Mack passed away last July from bladder cancer. Today was his birthday and we had both posted Happy Birthday wishes on his FB page. This is the only way to let those who knew him from here know.

Rest in Peace my friend. You will be missed.

It seems that there are times when I will piss someone off in Chat and that is okay but it really stems from people showing up asking for help and then just up and disappearing with a explanation of any kind. What gets to me is that members come into chat asking for help and when you try to help them they suddenly disappear as if they and not interested or want to hear what we are offering. There is no bbl or brb or anything and for me that is rude. It makes me feel like they do not care…

This was published in a Baptist magazine that my grandmother used to receive when I was a teenager growing up in the 60’s.  I used to go through it and would cut out some of the stories and poems that resonated with me back then.  I still have them in a binder I started back then and still take some time to read them again and again.  I wish I had written down what the complete article said.

Encountering one of the healthiest and…

This was posted on FB by a friend of my named Glori Beth.

Speaks both to the wisdom of the person who wrote it and the value of bereavement groups.

There was a couple who used to go to England to shop in the beautiful stores. They both liked antiques and pottery and especially teacups. This was their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. One day in this beautiful shop they saw a beautiful teacup. They said, "May we see that? We've never seen one quite so…

Healing Journey

I am calling the follow poem “Healing Journey”.   It was written by Carole Brody Fleet and I wanted to share it.  If you haven’t read her book “Happily Even After”, I recommend it.

As your journey forward on your healing journey, remember these words from “Happily Even After…”**

Whatever the path I choose to take on my Healing Journey,

It is my path to choose to take.

My path is unique because I am unique…

Home Repairs - Part 2

I finally completed skim coating the walls in the kitchen and sanding them.  They are now painted.  It's not perfect but it looks 100% better than it did.  I can live with it.

I started work on the stairs.  I stringer and banister are metal and the steps are wood and bolted to the stringers.  I removed the bolts and nuts and did clean everything.  I now plan to paint the metal and put in new steps.  I will have Home Depot cut me 13 steps from of 2 X 12's.  The length of the steps is…

Home Repairs

Learning to do home repairs for me has not been an easy task but one I am tackling.  I had to go to Home Depot this morning to get some drywall tape because I realized that I had 4 outside corners where the metal really should be covered and the drywall compound was just not doing the job.  I only when to get the drywall tape and walked out with a small can of polyurethane for the…

It seems like we have instructions for everything.  Instructions for putting things together like bicycles, grills, using hand tools, coffee pots, microwaves, washers, dryers, lawn mowers, downloading and installing software.  I have found that LIFE does not come with a set of instructions nor does this journey through widowhood.

We just muddle our way through the journey of widowhood stumbling along the way, falling down, getting back up with some scrapes and bruises along the way. …

The After Loss Credo

This was posted in a comment on a website I was on today.  I was checking the site out because I had just finished reading the book "QBQ!". . . The Question Behind the Question by John G. MIller about practicing personal accountability.  I wanted to share it with my widow village family.  Thank you all for being here and for this site.

I need to talk about my loss.

I may often need to tell you what happened -

or to ask you why it…

I hope this does not offend anyone but I just had to share these. I have alway been told that "Laughter is good for the soul."

I see so many of us struggling with everyday issues such as money worries, worried about their business, children and just life in general.  Some friends I know on here are struggling and I thought of this poem.  It has been around forever and we get so caught up in our worries and grief that we tend to forget it.  When I was doing a search for this I found this on another site and thought the introduction about where the person saw this poem and what it meant to the people of the tiny…

Dogs Don't Have Souls, Do They?

Several of us were talking last night in chat about our furbabies.  I mentioned the poem "Dogs Don't Have Souls Do They".  No one had heard of it so I thought I would share it here.  I think also is true for cats as well.  I first heard this one the Russ Martin Show here in Dallas riding into work with my husband Jim.  I will say that Russ Martin is a very well known DJ here in the Dallas area and when you listen to his talk radio show you would not expect to hear his voice quiver.  The…

Belize Central America

Many of you have heard me talk about how beautiful Belize Central America is.  Belize was formerly known as Bristish Honduras when I was growing up.  They gained their indeendence from Britian on Sept. 21, 1981.  They are  a part of the British Commonwealth.  They are protected by a 185 mile barrier reef, the longest reef in the northern hemisphere.  The official language is English although other languages can be found.  They are a third world country but visiting Belize is like stepping…

Grandmother Says

This was on my Facebook page this morning. I shared in in a group on Facebook but also thought it worth sharing here.  i would think I would like to be the coffee bean.

Grandmother Says...

Carrots, Eggs, or Coffee; "Which are you?"

A young woman went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one…

I have had a lot of time to think about Christmas. I have learned that Christmas is not about the gifts, toys, decorations or money we spend but about the birth of Christ. We all have lost a loved one but we also have a reason to celebrate the birth of a child if we for one minute put our grief aside and remember the true meaning of Chirstmas.

I am having a really hard time with Mr. God right now but I do know that Christmas is and should be celebrating the birth of Christ not for…
