Nice to be shocked by something good:)

Last night I won $2550 at the sailing club draw for members. Just before the excitement I'd been discussing financial  worries with my friend.

We'd decided to go to the draw because the money had to be won that night. Usually several member numbers are randomly generated and called out but if the person isn't there the draw money rises until it reaches $2550. Last night everyone present in the club had the chance to win in a special ticket draw.

I'd written my name down for the special draw.

Then I saw my membership number come up on the screen. It was amazing to see 204...then the final zero come up.

So no special draw (where I had about a one in 200 chance) with the winner being me! Apparently there are over 5000 members so I was very lucky. I'll supply my bank details to the club on Monday.

This win will help during an expected lean time over the next few months - also I've booked a package of 10 driving lessons costing $490 so paying for that won't be a stress.

Feel a bit seedy this morning though. Up too late and too much red wine and champagne.

Wonder if my John had an influence on this or not.

Dawn, I'm glad I contacted Centrelink online on Friday to find out what's happening because nothing is happening!

I have to apply for the Widow Allowance or Newstart. Had a call a few minutes ago saying I had to apply. The staff member was transferring me through for an online interview but the connection was lost.

So I will need to psyche myself up to visit Centrelink as well as the club today.

Also bought a tomato seedling at Aldi yesterday so will need to plant in a north facing bed where I have my failed May bush project. Perhaps that will be a vegie patch one day.

Dawn and Lauralee - think I need a lot more experience in between lessons and that's hard to arrange. There's also the anxiety about not being able to drive safely that I need to overcome.

I don't know if any of that is grief related with me now being in the driver's seat.

Found a guide to the state's driving test online that reveals what testers are looking for and shows exactly how the test is marked. It also shows parking, 3-point turn, roundabouts and cornering. So I have downloaded and will print out today. Somehow it's easier to read manuals on paper rather than scrolling down on the computer.

Also need to go to the sailing club to give them bank details for direct deposit:)

Aussiewidow:  I'm so happy for you and I'm sure your John had a hand in it.  Enjoy it!

Over the moon for you sweetie. That is such great news. You will soon have your licence and then your freedom too. That sure will help get you through the next few months, so hard once the Bereavement Payment ceases. The replacement is a lot less. Been there and done that, survivable, but only just enough in my case. Take care honey xxxx

Marvelous!  I am so happy for you.  It amazes me when things sometimes work out - you needed some funds and they were provided (abeit in an unconventional way).  One less stress for you to worry about.  PS:  I'm so glad you are keeping up with the driving lessons.

Awesome indeed!

Funny thing is I hadn't wanted to join the club because I didn't see myself visiting often as it's 10km away by road and a bus and train ride home.

But I was forced to join in order to visit and socialise with friends who go regularly because of a 5km radius rule. My home is on the other side of the bay - probably about 2.5km as the crow flies. I had joked about swimming or kayaking across.

Turns out it was a good thing I joined.

Hoping others in strife have some luck too.
