I think there are 3 ways to get into chat.. from the main menu, from the bottom left of the page where is says Main room and also off I think your home page. I just opene it from the bottom left corner & it opened.
Is your "java" program up to date? it is a free software that usually supports chat rooms.

I just tried it and it worked for me. Try downloading google chrome, chat works better on it
