Woke with this one dancing in my head this morning. Just had to write it down and share. Will be part of the next book I think

Dancing with Grief

My partner in life’s dance for more than a year

He’s tossed me here and thrown me there

Way up high amongst the clouds

Way down low amongst the dirt

The dance has changed its pace and rhythm

Throughout the months we’ve been partnered

At first a frenzy of rock and roll dances, mixed in with jive

Tossed upon the waves of tears and heart break

Hidden away from the world at large

Stunned by the harsh drumbeats

Mind overpowered by the shock

Left in a fluttering heap upon the floor

The dance and life move on around us

The pace it slows somewhat over time

The quiet grief of the waltz

Whirls and twirls amidst the tears

Softly, gently holding us close

As we stumble to our feet again

It’s gentler now, this dance with grief

Lifting us gently towards the light and life

It flows with grace beside our days

And brings us dreams at night

A solo dance, just one alone

As the tears flow gentler now

The flows of life and the dance with grief

Have patterned my soul for almost two years

Now the dance is soft and gentle

Like a ballet solo, in the Nutcracker Suite

Floating like swansdown snow flakes

Present as a part of life

No longer in full control of me

I can dance on slowly

Memories and pain not so harsh

The grip of grief no longer strong

I dance alone now amidst the flowers

Hands outstretched to reach the future
