Aug 16-The Grandmother Lodge
When a woman goes through menopause she is often made to feel that her life is over. Often she finds herself alone through death or cast aside in favor of a younger woman. It might seem to her that it's all downhill from here. But the truth of it is, a woman in this stage of life has her most important and fulfilling years ahead of her.

When you enter the Grandmother Lodge, you are coming into your greatest power as keeper and teacher of the highest law, which is known by our people as the Law Of Right Relationship. It is our responsibility to bring balance to the world. Having raised our families, we become Mothers to all. We become protectors of all life: the two-legged, the four-legged, that which grows and that which simply is. We are the ones who will bring forth the New Age of Peace and Harmony that has long been awaited.

In past times it was the Grandmothers who held the leaders accountable for their actions. We were the ones who instructed the young people how to live gently upon the earth and to respect all life. The Grandmother Lodge has not been honored in a long time which is evidenced by the destruction we have seen take place on this planet. Not only are we destroying our Earth, but through our decadent behavior and lack of respect, we are destroying each other.

It is up to the Elder Wise Women to set this straight. Each one of you who is reading this has a part to play. I am calling you to come together. It doesn't matter if you are part of a tribe, a church group or a neighborhood. Form your own Grandmother Lodge. You not only carry the wisdom of your life, but you also carry the accumulated wisdom of all life since the beginning of time. Take up the power that is inherently yours. Demand the respect you have earned.

What should you do in your Grandmother Lodge? There are many ways to teach and many ways to lead. What are your interests? What do you feel strongly about? Some protect the land. Some fight to end violence against women. Others teach the ways of peace. Still others combat loneliness and fear. There are thousands of things that need doing and millions of grandmothers more than capable of doing them - as soon as they realize they can. Go into the Silence. Creator will show you the way.

There are wonderful days ahead for us. This planet will once again flourish. Rivers will run pure and free. The air will be clean and safe. Mothers and fathers will love and honor each other and children will never again know fear of any kind.

And the Grandmothers will lead us there

So glad to have been in the right spot to receive this when it came across my screen on Facebook, the other day.  The quote is credited to one or more of the Thirteen GrandMothers.

Sure does. Especially because I am at the foot hills of the Black Hills, the sacred hills of the Lakota tribe. I am here to spread some of Jud's ashes as this was his "spiritual place." I need to think carefully, what is my role as a grandmother.

Thanks, my dear. You are a wise woman!

Big Hugs,

Suz

Thank you for posting this.  You have given me something to truly think about and research.  The white man was not wise enough to listen and learn from our Native Americans.

Coco, Susan, and Joyce, I'm glad it touched you like it did me.  I feel it points out a possible direction, and one which has been long honored, found to work over time... and in a culture which does not run from its widows like ours sometimes seems to.

My church does a croning ceremony when a woman reaches 65. She is admitted as a wise woman.
