The plans and desires in my life that demonstrate my longing for God are many. For one, my desire to still be with Joanne intimately is really a longing for an intimate relationship with God. After all, he is love and what I feel for Joanne is love.

My desires for security - to be financially free and to work with people - is a desire for God from where our security comes from. Even my plans - to have peace and happiness all comes from God. EVERY longing we have - ALL OF IT - can be filled by a relationship with our creator and his son. There's nothing he can't satisfy within us. Our challenge is to learn how.

Experiences of incompleteness show me a lot about God as the fulfillment of my life. First, when Joanne died, I felt my most incomplete. The un-fathomless of it all! I realized I couldn't do it so I sought out God (But God really came and got me!)

Just as in Psalm 63:

Oh God, you are my God-

For you I long!

For you my body yearns;

For you my soul thirsts,

Like a land parched, lifeless,

And without water.

So I look to you in the sanctuary

To see your power and glory.

For your love is better than life…

And I believe that's what everyone is searching for - but we don't know it.

My incompleteness makes me realize how much I need him. My longing for God reveals to me that he is the core of my being! It's strange - he is our center - every one of us. Again, we don't know it. We go through life searching and thinking we've found satisfaction in things like money, alcohol, drugs, sex, relationships, hobbies - which all have their good place in our lives. But they don't satisfy.

The only satisfaction comes from finding our Lord and Savior deep within our inner self. John 4:14 says it all: "But the water I give them, becomes a perpetual spring within them, watering them forever with eternal life." And Matthew 7:7-8, "Ask, Seek, Knock" is about finding him inside ourselves. We've closed so many doors within our deep spiritual selves that we can only open with his help. This is our answer to everything we long for.

Thank you for this wonderful post. The one thing that I love about God is that he loves us UNCONDITIONALLY...it doesn't matter your race, color, religion...He loves us anyway.
