Widowed Village

A community of peers created by the Soaring Spirits Loss Foundation

I cannot account for my fascination with this artist. Unless it has something to do with his creative and physical longevity and the obvious love and gratitude he has for his life. I understand that he's a recovering alcoholic and surviving that disease in his business is remarkable. And, there's that cancer thing. I've collected a youtube playlist from his young days till now. And, I watch it a lot. I think I'm figuring out that his young career reminds me of my boys and what they're trying to do. The things that I've read about how he was been there for his family schlepping his kids back and forth to school and stuff also remind me of the way my own husband took care of our kids who were born when he was in his late forties and early fifties. My husband addressed his alcoholism, too. And, he also had cancer which he also recovered from. When I watch these videos and listen to his albums I remember the different stages that I went through with my husband. Thirty years. He died in November at seventy-eight. I'm twenty-five years younger and wonder what's next for me. I've got these kids who are grown up now. Mostly. They think the music is pretty good but they don't really get why I'm so into it. Neither do I. Just processing some stuff here.

You talking about John Prine?  Music is the only thing that keeps me feeling halfway alive.  I totally get where you are with all this.  I say, just go for it, whatever helps you, you know?  Sending you best wishes.
