All these rooms contain your depth, your breath

Your thoughts on how they should look and feel

The wall unit you built in the dining room

Notwithstanding a few colorful adjectives

Prior to its completion

Filled to the brim with lovely memories

The kitchen you declared the best room in the house

The aroma of your cooking, your gift to many

The floor that the contractor said would be ready to dance on by the weekend

So we slow danced to prove it

The bedroom with the ugly paneling

That I bemoaned as intolerable

So you acquiesced

And said to call the contractor, again

The grouting of the bathroom tile

I insisted on doing to prove that I could

While you shook your head in dismay

It wasn’t perfect, but it got done

The paw scratches

On the mudroom window sills from our beloved lab

There for all of eternity

Or at least until I move away

Thank you for such wonderful memories

And remembering that the gratitude is all mine

Sharon passed away January 19th of this year. We had been married 43 years, 9 months and 12days.  Any yes, you are right!! Being here in our home of 38 years is beaming bittersweet and comforting. Thanks for both your post and for you reply to my comment.

Yes, Tess...how true. I am saving up to meet the entrance fee on a cottage in a retirement community here and I am glad it will take me a few years to do so as Sharon permeates this home we had for 38 years.
