I went down to a favorite place of ours to watch the space shuttle fly past.
I ended up having to wait 2 hours, and almost gave up and left because I was having such a hard time being there. Then this woman came over to me and asked if I was ok, that I looked so sad. I told her I was, just lots of memories. She told me she understood that her husband died in February and she was only there to watch the space shuttle because it was something he would have loved to see.
I told her that was the same reason I was there. That Patrick would have camped out there over night if he could have just to make sure he didn't miss anything.
We got to talking and she told me she met Patrick at a blood drive a couple of years ago. She said she doesn't remember anyone else from that day, but the fact that Patrick was waiting for a heart transplant and still taking the time to help others made her sit back and think. She told me that because of him she tried to be a little less selfish and put an effort into making time to volunteer around town.
We also talked about Donate Life and what its all about. She thought it was amazing that my 13 yr old and my 10 yr old took the classes to become Donate Life Ambassadors to share their dad's story, but also educate people on the importance of organ donation.
I've been having a hard time the last couple of days. I've been very down, and cried a lot. Talking to this woman and knowing that Patrick made a lasting impression on her made me feel so much better. It also brought back so many good memories about why I love him so much.

I agree with Tanya, God puts people in our lives when we need them. Patrick must have been a wonderful man, I never met him but he must be because he chose a wonderful woman to marry and raised two wonderful children. Patrick did a lot of good for a lot of people in his short life, may you find some comfort in that.
Love you my friend,
Alan

Comment by Joyce on September 22, 2012 at 9:12pm What a wonderful story Sam, thanks for sharing. Glad you ended up staying, I'm sure Patrick had a hand in it. So glad you got to meet that woman and she was able to make you feel better.
This epitomizes what we all wish for our stories. That the one we loved will always be remembered for their love and contribution to this life. Well done Patrick ! I beleive there are no concidences in this life...you were meant to be there today and meet this lady to give you the gift that your Patrick will never be forgotten :) Very special. Blessings - LIsa
