The Confident Widow/Drew Lady July 4 Why The World needs More Pie !

Hello and Happy Fourth of July !!

Everyone be careful in this awful heat. missed a concert by Philly Pops last night because of awful humidity and Occupy folks from all over the country and Tea party folks from all over the country all gathering at Independence Mall where the concert was taking place. Non widowed people said don't be a wimp but I did not want to be anywhere near confrontation and get knocked down, etc. Yes I am more careful since becoming a widowed parent.

I thought I was making it ok through Drew's 60th birthday June 12 the kids birthdays the same week Father's day June 17 and Wedding anniversary June 28.But skipping the concert and coming home to an empty house well it came crashing down and I was blubbering about 4th of July also. We did every holiday huge.

So began trying to decide on desserts for today and market open until midnight so pulled out magazines to search.

The June/July issue of Taste of Home I had not read. A special section The United Tastes of America saluted  cooks and their summer recipes. Home Cook Heros they are called.

So I read a great bio of a Home Cook Hero Beth Howard from Eldon Iowa. Beth is a widow and was writing a book about pie and simplifyng her life when her husband passed away. Beth finished the book called Making Piece:A Memoir of Love,Loss and Pie. Beth calls herself a "pie evangelist." Her home is the American Gothic House the one in Grant Wood's painting of the elderly couple with the pitchfork.

I know I will be checking out her blog :  the worldneedsmorepie.blogspot.com

yes, the heat and humidity are wicked here. We are nearly neighbors.  I also have many family birthdays, especially this week and its tough.

We remember and we hurt.

Making pies is so symbolic!

Thanks for a wonderful post.

The world does need more pie. And love. And happiness. Thanks for sharing.
