Drewlady/Confident Widow One Extreme to the Other

Feeling so happy this Saturday. A group of friends and myself" the strays" we call ourselves, mix of widows widowers divorced women and men get together to go to movies, plays, etc. They voted me the organizer because I do such a good job. Real meaning I am a nag about getting tickets well ahead of time ,reservations ,so we are not disappointed.

Several carloads left early Saturday to go to Atlantic City. All week different casinos were hosting  the Food Network Stars at workshops and other events.I began watching FN and reading the magazine and websites when i realized about a month after Drew died I better learn how to cook. We cant eat cake and pie which I baked  but not all the time and we cant eat out every day because we were doing that also. Realize by now that Drew was a great cook and grillmaster?

So besides the heat 100 in AC too no ocean breeze at all and I laughed at the weatherman when he said that at 7am. But other than the awful humidity we did have a lot of fun.The event we went to was Brews Blues and BBQ. Hosts Paula Deen and Tyler Florence. both  so funny so down to earth. All you could eat and drink. Thank goodness for huge tents with fans. Really enjoyed the bands and blues singers too.Annoyed that folks we chatted with thought we were were married or coupled or something. Singletons in a couples world !

Checked out the  other sights. All well until I got home around 11pm. Sooo tired until I got in bed not unusual. kids still at the movie theatre working extra hours.

Hey why dont I watch the movie Marty I recorded it several days ago.Made in 1953.The actor Ernest B. died recently so TCM was showing his movies.Enjoyed it until Marty's mother and her sister age 56 !! begin wailing their lives are over they have nothing to do no one to care for. Widowed several years they still dressed in black and made the sign of the cross whenever they spoke their late husbands names. Being Catholic I thought yipes I havent done that since the first 6 months . And Drew was Baptist. It was a very long very sad scene.

Well their wailing got me to sobbing and missing Drew even more.I switched to the Olympics which I also recorded but now I was in a real funk.So I switched to the comedy Kisses for My President 1964 movie with Fred MacMurray Polly Bergen. Recorded that a few weeks ago.She is the first woman President. Halfway through I fell asleep.

This going from very happy to very sad  happens but  less frequently. It happened a lot the first two years. Went to our college homecoming or to a golf benefit get home  and in five minutes  I'm on the floor sobbing.Missing Drew and missing that he wasnt with me to be apart of the fun.

But I dont think I will watch Marty for a long while . My goodness we widows have come a long way !! Now thinking of that gave me a lift.

oh Drewlady:   I so wish I had a group of "strays" to hang with, I'm happy for you.    I'm so glad widows have come a long way, I couldn't image wearing full black for a year or more, talk about depressing, I think that would make a person worse.  Sending hugs
