I just heard the news that a dear friend of mine will be getting membership into our club here. I don't want her to have membership!!!
Debra married Karl 40 years ago. they have been through good times and bad, but always together. Karl was diagnosed with terminal cancer with somehere between 40 to 50 tumors and given 6 months. The best he can hope for is to live long enough to see their first grandchild born in February.
I know what she will be going through and I have promised to be there for "after". The rest of our friends can deal with the dying process, but I get the after. I don't want her here.

Update: Karl has been admitted to hospice and is not expected to live more than a few days. Two weeks ago he was given 6 months. That wasn't fair and this sucks even more.

Susan,
I am really sorry to hear about Karl. I wish she didn't have to join this club either. People who are there for the after are rare and important. That is really the greatest gift you can give her. As you well know, there are tons of people to help through the illness. Very, very few are there for the after.

So sorry to hear about your friend. Of course we don't want her to be here, but she will be made to feel as welcome as we all do.
