We're friends, not doctors, financial or legal professionals, and we're not "grief experts." But we are here, and we've been "there."

As my wife's health was detoriating due to her cancer spreading throughout her body and I started trying to prepare for my upcoming journey into grief-land, I came across the fact that one of the things that you will forget the quickest is the sound of your spouse's voice. I never recorded her voice and she didn't have a voice mail recording on her cell phone. This was one my biggest regrets since I knew about this but I just thought we had so much more time left together.

Today I was working on getting all the pictures and phone numbers off her cell phone before I cancel the service and just for the heck of it I decided to check the "Voice Notes Recorder"  app. I was surprised to see that there was a 5 second recording from April of last year. When I played it, it was indeed a recording from my sweetie "I love you the mostest!". We always told each other how we loved each other the mostest. The recording was less than two months before her first oncologist told her that she only had 2-3 months left.

I'm so relieved to have received this last gift from her!

Hi Mags,

This really hits home; over a year ago when I first arrived here, stunned and lost, one ot the first things I noticed which brought me calm was the ability to imagine the sound of the female voices from the chat room. Later, as my mind began to refocus, I could clearly point to the missing of DJ's voice as something which was keeping me with the feelings of sadness and gloom. Being able to ''hear'' again helped me so much as I began the  journey. Since then I have heard DJ's voice on video and voicemail, and I can truly understand the joy you receive from having discovered that voicemail. I would have never thought how important this would be for me, I'm so glad for you!....wishing you Peace and Healing...

How great to read this!  I also found two photos on my phone that I didn't remember - one taken the first day at the cancer center, the other was our last visit to the cancer center where my husband was laying with head on my lap as his bones were too fragile to hold him up during the wait in the lobby.  Treasures for sure.

And I happened to get a tape of his voice on the iPad, which has indeed been good to hear.  We are fortunate to have these nuggets to hold on to.  Even though this journey is ever so rough.  Pat

That is a wonderful gift!!! I unfortunately don't have a recording and went into a panic driving to work a few weeks after he died thinking OMG what if I forget the sound of his voice??? A few nights later driving home I heard his voice in my head clear as a bell saying 'Hi Hunny Bunny' (a silly nickname he called me sometimes). But it made me smile and realize I will NEVER forget. :)

thank you. I emailed the WAV file to all my email accounts and downloaded it on all my computers and put it in my online storage. Just in case :-)
