Hi, my name is Tonyia. I lost my spouse on 2/29/20 after 7 years of battles with dementia & ALS. I’ve was his sole caregiver since 2014. I’m struggling with trying to re-find myself and “ purpose”.
Hi Tonyia-
I am very sorry for your loss and what your partner had to go through, what you had to go through, and what you are facing now.
My partner passed away in June of 2020 after living for four years with ALS… with the daily loss of muscle function, and waking up to a new reality each day.
I am still trying to heal from knowing and seeing how much suffering ALS inflicted on my best friend, love, partner. On the flip side, I feel extremely grateful for everything, simple things like just being able to lift a glass and drink water or stretch my legs…it is hard when no one else understands how lucky we all are to have muscles that function! I miss my partner immensely. The loss of not having him in my life is quite palpable to me.
I appreciate your posting. I too am trying to find my equilibrium, and hope to find purpose.
My partner was truly kind, charismatic and light-hearted. He did not have dementia. What you and your partner went through I can not imagine.
I am at a loss for words on what to say. Sending my support.
